Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Accelerate Indiana Internship Program (AIIP)?
AIIP is IWU Career Development’s funded internship program. The Lilly Endowment, Inc. awarded IWU Career Development a grant that funds internships at Indiana businesses and nonprofit organizations through spring 2021. Each term (fall, spring, and summer), employers may apply to participate in the program. Career Development reviews and selects employers based on the quality of their internship offering, appeal to students, and potential for leading to full-time opportunities. Then students are invited to apply for internships hosted by selected employers.
Who is eligible to apply for an AIIP internship?
All IWU–Marion undergraduate students attending at least part-time are eligible through the summer after graduation (for April graduates) or through the semester of graduation (for all other graduates).
How do I apply?
When applications are available, visit IWU On-Campus Employment on Handshake to view internship openings and application instructions. If this is your first time using Handshake, use your IWU email to and follow the instructions to create your account. You will need a resume and any other documents required by the employer, such as a cover letter or references.
When can I apply?
Spring internship applications open around early November. Summer and fall internship applications open around early March. Each application closes when the position is filled. If you are not sure if applications are available, visit IWU On-Campus Employment on Handshake or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Where will I work during my AIIP internship?
Available internships change each term, but past interns have worked at nonprofit organizations and businesses from a variety of industries, including sports, healthcare, economic development, accounting, finance, and insurance, human resources, retail, real estate, marketing, social services, and more. Internships may be located in central or northeastern Indiana, including Marion, Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, or other nearby locations. (Note: Interns must provide their own transportation to internship sites.)
Are AIIP internships paid?
Yes! Interns earn $11/hour for up to 200 hours (during fall and spring) or 300 hours (during summer). How much you earn is dependent on the schedule you will create with your supervisor during your internship. Interns are limited to 20 hours/week during fall and spring and 40 hours/week during summer (and may not work more than 40 hours/week for all IWU campus jobs combined, including paid leadership positions, during any term).
Can I earn academic credit for the internship?
Participating in an internship through AIIP does not automatically grant academic credit. However, interns are encouraged to speak with their faculty advisors about the potential of counting your AIIP internship toward a required or elective for-credit internship, practicum, and/or independent study.
Who should I contact with questions?
If you have more questions about AIIP or need assistance with your application, email David Adams, Student Employment Coordinator, at email@example.com.
