Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Accelerate Indiana Internship Program?

The Lilly Endowment, Inc. awarded the IWU Office of Career Development a grant titled, Accelerate Indiana, which provides financial support to 20 interns per academic term (fall, spring, and summer). Each participating intern works for an Indiana start-up businesses or organization (five years or younger).

Why should students consider interning for start-up employers through AIIP?

·         Start-ups are fast-paced, innovative environments where you can cultivate a spirit of entrepreneurism

·         By interning for a start-up (five years or younger), you can actively participate in the critical years in which a business establishes itself

·         Start-ups offer unique, meaningful work opportunities for interns such as business plans, marketing plans, financial input, growth projections, PR support, and more

·         The internships are PAID for by a Lilly Endowment grant

What kinds of employers participate in the Accelerate Indiana Internship Program?

This program is part of a state-wide Lilly Endowment initiative focusing on start-up businesses and organizations in Indiana. All of the employers in the program are five years or younger and are located in Indiana. The Office of Career Development invites start-ups of ALL industries to apply for interns to provide diverse opportunities for students of ALL majors.  The Career Development team also selects start-ups that communicate a potential for full-time hire following the internship period and meaningful work experience for interns.

Where are the internship sites?

During the fall and spring, most (if not all) of the internship sites are within 60 miles of the IWU campus. For the summer internship period, internships sites are located throughout Indiana. For example, the internship program has featured start-ups from Fishers, Indianapolis, Kokomo, Bloomington, Lafayette, Fort Wayne, and Marion.

Please Note: Interns MUST provide their own transportation to internship sites.

Do I earn academic credit for the internship?

The Accelerate Indiana Internship Program is not an academic course. However, interns are encouraged to talk with their faculty advisor about the potential of applying the internship to credit-granting courses that require an internship, practicum, and/or independent study. We also offer an Internship Class called LFC 325 Life Calling Internship Class.
