What is the Accelerate Indiana Internship Program?

The Lilly Endowment, Inc. awarded the IWU Office of Career Development a grant titled, Accelerate Indiana, which provides financial support to interns each semester (fall, spring, and summer). Each participating intern works for an Indiana businesses or organization.

Why should students consider interning with Indiana Employers through AIIP?

·         Indiana is known as a business-friendly state so businesses are able to grow and thrive here.

·         By interning for an Indiana business, you can increase the likelihood of getting a full-time offer to live and work in Indiana.

·         Indiana is a very affordable state to live in. With a cost of living that is much lower than many other parts of the country.

·         The internships are PAID for by a Lilly Foundation grant

What kinds of employers participate in the Accelerate Indiana Internship Program?

This program is part of a state-wide Lilly Foundation initiative focusing on keeping talent right here in Indiana. All of the employers in the program are located in Indiana. The Office of Career Development invites businesses of ALL industries to apply for interns to provide diverse opportunities for students of ALL majors.  The Career Development team also selects start-ups that communicate a potential for full-time hire following the internship period and meaningful work experience for interns.

Where are the internship sites?

The internship program has featured businesses from Fishers, Indianapolis, Kokomo, Fort Wayne, and Marion. Preference will be given to internships located in Grant County.

Please Note: Interns MUST provide their own transportation to internship sites.

Is there summer housing available?

Yes! As an added bonus, if you are offered a summer internship through the Accelerate Indiana Internship program, you qualify for free summer housing at the IWU-Marion campus.

Do I earn academic credit for the internship?

The Accelerate Indiana Internship Program is not an academic course. However, interns are encouraged to talk with their faculty advisor about the potential of applying the internship to credit-granting courses that require an internship, practicum, and/or independent study. We also offer an Internship Class called LFC 325 Life Calling Internship Class.

What are the timelines for Accelerate Indiana internships?


·         Apply in the summer

·         Internship Period: September – December

·         Work approximately 15 hours/week at $11.00/hour


·         Apply beginning in fall

·         Internship Period: January – April (or May if students are available)

·         Work approximately 15 hours/week at $11.00/hour


·         Apply beginning in the spring

·         Internship Period: May or June – August

·         Work approximately 20 hours/week at $11.00/hour
